DURIAN
- The King of Fruit
In the Southeast Asian nations where it grows wild in equatorial rainforests,
Durian is known as the King of Fruits. You wouldn't know it from looking at it
or smelling it
but Durian is highly coveted for its nutritional benefits
and heavenly taste.
By appearance, Durian is a spiky, green fruit.
By smell, its odor is legendary and has led to public bans of
just its presence in some communities. But Durian's taste
is the kind that has inspired people to defy these bans and
make great efforts to sneak this wonderful fruit wherever
they go.
Durian is known as a yang
fruit, often credited with warming qualities.
In the lands to which it is native, Durian is believed to match
perfectly with the Mangosteen.
Not only does Mangosteen
provide the nutritional complement to Durian, but it also is
said to neutralize that infamous odor.
Nutritional Benefits of DURIAN
Considered one of the most nutritious fruits in the world, each Durian houses approximately five segments containing seeds and creamy, edible pulp. This portion known as the aril provides significant nutritional benefits. The fruit offers so many nutrients that in Thailand, Durian is often fed to medical patients and post-natal women.
Among the beneficial nutrients in each Durian are:
-
Phytonutrients: nutrient compounds that provide immune system support, DNA damage repair, carcinogen detoxification, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.
-
Organo-sulfur compounds: natural organic compounds known to have medicinal benefits such as minimizing cholesterol development, decreasing inflammation and arthritic pain, improving joint movement and skin complexion, and counteracting
carcinogens.
-
Dietary Fiber: supports a healthy intestinal tract.
-
Essential Amino Acids: contains essential amino acids, with glutamate at particularly high levels which is critical in the metabolic
process.
-
Tryptophan: a healthy amino acid that is the antecedent to Serotonin which monitors the human
body's emotions. Serotonin is converted to Melatonin which promotes efficient sleep, aids in managing anxiety and is often effective in treating several types of mental
disorders.
-
Minerals: including calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, zinc, copper and manganese.
-
Vitamins: including thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid (B5), Vitamin A, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Folic Acid and retinol.
-
Protein and Fat: Good muscle builder that is high in protein and fat, but cholesterol-free*
Other Health Benefits of the Durian include:

MANGOSTEEN
- The Queen
of Fruit
Known as the Queen of Fruit, the Mangosteen grows almost exclusively in tropical Southeast Asia. The dark purple, tangerine-sized fruit is characteristically topped with a distinctive crown of leaves.
It is sought-after not only for its spectacular flavor, but its unique nutritional benefits.
The
Mangosteen is known as a yin fruit, often credited
with cooling properties.
In Asian culture,
the Mangosteen is believed to work in perfect harmony with the
Durian.
While
the Durian serves as the ultimate nutritional accompaniment to
the Mangosteen, the Mangosteen counter balances the unpleasant
scent of the Durian.
Nutritional
Benefits of MANGOSTEEN
Distinguished
as one of the super fruits of the world, Mangosteen has been
used as a medicinal aid for hundreds of years by traditional
healers in Southeast Asia. Each Mangosteen consists of an
exterior rind housing several segments of soft, white pulp.
The interior fruit
known as the aril
is
nutrient-rich on its own, but the exterior rind
known as the pericarp
brings the nutritional benefits to a greater level. The
pericarp portion of the Mangosteen is rich in xanthones; in
fact, it contains one of the highest levels found in any
natural substance. Mandura
includes Mangosteen in its entirety in order to ensure the
optimum nutrients are supplied, including:
-
Xanthones: a unique class of phytonutrient that are ultra-potent antioxidants evidenced to have life-supporting and anti-inflammatory qualities*
-
Tannins: a natural astringent known for antioxidant qualities and intestinal health benefits*
-
Protein and Fat: Good muscle builder that is high in protein and healthy fat, but cholesterol-free
-

-
Iron: Mineral known to aid in the production of red blood cells and maintain proper muscle and organ function*
-
Vitamins: Vitamin C, Vitamin B and other amino acids.

ACAI -
The
Exotic Brazilian Superfruit

Discovered by
native tribes of the Amazon rainforest, the Acai Berry has
been a nutritious and medicinal staple in South
American culture for centuries.
The berry itself
can be found growing in clusters at the top of tall palm
trees known to Brazilians as the "tree of life"
because of the "life-supporting' qualities the fruit is

Nutritional
Benefits of ACAI
Named
one of the most potent antioxidant fruits in existence, Acai

Slightly larger than a blueberry, each deep-purple fruit
contains a thin layer of edible pulp
known as the mesocarp
surrounded by dark skin
known
as the exocarp
all encompassing a large seed
known
as the endocarp. The exocarp and mesocarp of the berry
provide considerably powerful nutrients. Its nutrient richness
is so significant that the people of South America have
traditionally used the Acai berry as a medicinal aid for
digestive and skin conditions. In fact, consuming the berry is
also culturally associated with promoting energy.
